A. Culture shock is a state of mind that affects people who travel to a different country for the first time. It can result in many symptoms, both physical and mental. This homesickness can result in a negative volunteer abroad experience. Although sadness and loss are natural when living in a new place far from home, you can take steps to avoid culture shock. One of the easiest ways to avoid culture shock is to learn as much as possible about your target country before applying to volunteer there. Some helpful sites like lonely planet site or US state department's website can give you some idea about the country where you heading.
